Cookie Policy
Last updated August 2026
ReefPicker uses cookies and similar technologies in three groups: essential, analytics, and advertising. Non-essential ones are only used with your consent.
Essential (always on)
Region — remembers your selected region (US/EU/UK/SE) so prices and retailers show in the right currency.
Affiliate session — an anonymous ID kept for up to 12 months, used to de-duplicate affiliate clicks and prevent fraud. It records that a click happened, not who you are.
Cookie choice — once you answer the banner, we store the answer itself: which policy version you replied to, and whether you said yes to analytics and to advertising. Nothing else. It is kept for 12 months, and it is written only after you choose — a refusal is stored too, so we can honour it on every page rather than ask you again.
Authentication — if you sign in, our provider (Clerk) sets cookies to keep you logged in.
Build state — your in-progress build is kept in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie) so you don’t lose it.
Analytics (only if you accept)
We use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics — Vercel Analytics and our own first-party measurement — to see which pages are used and how the site performs. Both are cookieless and measure traffic in aggregate: no raw IP addresses are stored, visitor identifiers rotate daily so no long-term profile can be built, and searches or page visits are never tied to your account. Neither builds an advertising profile of you, and neither shares data with a third party. Neither runs until you accept — if you reject, or simply close the banner without answering, nothing is measured at all, including on our own server. You can change your answer whenever you like from Cookie settings in the footer.
We also load Google’s Preferred Sources button, shown in the footer, which lets you mark reefpicker.com as a source you’d like to see more of in Google Search. Unlike the analytics above, this one runs inside a frame hosted by Google and contacts Google the moment it loads — it’s gated behind the same consent choice, but Google, not us, receives that signal.
Advertising (consent required)
We use the Meta Pixel and the TikTok Pixel to measure our advertising and reach people who’ve shown interest. They set cookies and share limited event data with Meta and with TikTok (ByteDance), which processes data outside the EEA. These advertising technologies are only loaded after you give consent, and you can change or withdraw that consent at any time.
Managing cookies & consent
You choose whether to allow analytics and advertising when you first visit, and can update that choice at any time from Cookie settings in the footer. Essential cookies can’t be switched off, but you can clear or block cookies in your browser settings — though signing in and saving builds may then stop working. See our Privacy Policy for how data is handled.
