Astrea Snail
Astraea (Lithopoma tectum) is a star-shelled Caribbean turban snail and a classic first cleanup-crew addition for its diatom-clearing appetite. Its defining weakness is that it cannot right itself if a current or a curious fish flips it onto its back — owners routinely have to manually right fallen individuals, since a stranded Astraea will starve rather than recover on its own, unlike a Trochus. It is fully reef- and invert-safeWon't harm shrimp, snails, crabs and other invertebrates sharing the tank. and asks for nothing beyond a stable, algae-bearing tank.
