Snowflake Moray
The snowflake moray is the eel most reefers start with — white, blotched with black dendritic markings, and hardy enough to take frozen food where its cousins hold out for live. Its teeth are blunt crushing pebbles rather than fangs, built for crabs and shrimp, so a cleanup crew is on the menu long before the fish are; anything small enough to swallow is still at risk. Store specimens are 15–20 cm and the eel is sold as manageable, but plan for 90 cm and a tank that suits it. It is not venomousArmed with venom — usually delivered through spines — so it needs careful handling., though the bite is serious and its eyesight is poor, so it is fed with tongs and never by hand — and it will find any gap in the lid.
