The Mexican Turbo (Turbo fluctuosus) is the largest and heaviest-shelled snail on this list, native to the Gulf of California and the wider Eastern Pacific — and it is the one snail here that genuinely eats hair algae, not just diatoms and film. That size and strength is also its downside: it will "bulldoze" through unglued frags and loose rockwork while grazing, so corals should be secured before adding one. It does not eat coral tissue and is otherwise fully reef-safe.
