"Peppermint shrimp" is a common name covering a cryptic complex of several Lysmata species, most collected from the Gulf of Mexico and Florida — retailers rarely specify which one you are getting. Only L. boggessi is reliably documented eating Aiptasia; other species in the complex may ignore it entirely, so results vary by batch. Best kept in small groups rather than as a single individual, and — unlike its reputation as fully reef-safe — some individuals are documented opportunistically nipping coral and zoanthid tissue when underfed.
