Hermit crab
Zebra Hermit Crab
Calcinus laevimanus
A striped Indo-Pacific dwarf hermit, smaller and generally gentler with snails than its Caribbean cousins — it grazes film algae and scavenges detritus tirelessly. It will still compete aggressively for empty shells, though, and can target Nassarius or Nerite snails specifically if no spare shells are on hand, so keep a stash of graduated empties. It leaves coral tissue alone.
Usually kept in numbers — scale the crew to the tank, not to the shopping list.
