Emperor Angelfish
One of the most iconic reef fish in the world, the adult Emperor is a bold, showpiece angel banded in electric blue and gold with a masked face, morphing from a blue-and-white swirled juvenile. It is a large, territorial, disease-prone fish that needs a very large, mature aquarium with deep caves and living rock to graze, and it should be added last as it will dominate a community. Strictly an advanced keeper's fish; reef-safe only with caution as it samples LPS, SPS polyps, zoanthids and clam mantles.

A real clash — aggression, predation or a same-genus fight.
Keep an eye on these
Usually fine, but worth watching in a smaller tank.
Good tankmates
No conflicts — a few popular ones to start with.
