Two-Barred Rabbitfish

A hardy, wide-ranging Indo-West Pacific rabbitfish named for the two dark diagonal bars across its head, and one of the largest foxface relatives commonly kept, reaching around 30 cm. It is an outstanding algae grazer and very tolerant of new tanks, but its size and boisterous grazing habits mean it needs a genuinely large, long aquarium as an adult, and it leans into soft and stony coral more readily than the smaller foxface species when underfed. ORA has captive-bred it in the past (currently not in production), so tank-raised stock surfaces occasionally alongside the more common wild imports. Like all rabbitfish it carries venomous dorsal, anal and pelvic spines that deliver a painful sting if mishandled.
