Sunrise Dottyback

Pseudochromis flavivertex

The sunrise dottyback is a Red Sea/Gulf of Aden basslet with a powder-blue body and a bright yellow stripe running from the face over the back to the tail. ORA rates it semi-aggressive rather than outright aggressive, making it one of the milder-tempered dottybacks — still territorial with its own kind and similarly shaped fish, but generally easier to place in a mixed community than most Pseudochromis. It's reef-safe with corals but rated invert-safe only with caution, since it may sample small ornamental shrimp. Commonly available captive-bred (ORA and others), it is hardy and a good beginner dottyback at under 8 cm.
