Miniata Grouper

Cephalopholis miniata

The Miniata Grouper — also traded as the Coral Hind — is a reddish-orange ambush predator dusted with electric-blue spots from nose to tail, one of the most striking groupers in the hobby. Over 80% of its wild diet is small fish, ambushed in a sudden rush from cover, so tankmates must be chosen by size: anything that fits in its mouth, ornamental shrimp included, is prey rather than company. It settles in well with good husbandry but needs a large, established system with plenty of caves — a dedicated predator-tank fish, not a community reef.
