Coral Hogfish
Also called the Eclipse Hogfish for the bold black diagonal band splitting its purple front from a bright yellow rear, this is one of the most striking and hardy hogfish in the trade. Juveniles are dark with electric-blue spots and even pick parasites off tankmates like tiny cleaners. As it grows toward 20 cm its appetite turns to meat, so shrimp, snails, hermit crabs and other small inverts become fair game. Coral-safe but never invert-safe, and a capable jumper, so a covered tank of 340 L or more suits it best.

Best kept apart
A real clash — aggression, predation or a same-genus fight.
Keep an eye on these
Usually fine, but worth watching in a smaller tank.
Good tankmates
No conflicts — a few popular ones to start with.
