Orange Skunk Clownfish

Amphiprion sandaracinos

A soft pale-orange clownfish with a single thin white stripe running from the snout all the way down the back — one of the most peaceful and easygoing of the anemonefishes. It pairs readily and is completely reef-safe, but its gentle nature makes it vulnerable to bullying, so keep it away from aggressive tankmates and pushier clowns. Widely captive-bred and undemanding; it hosts carpet or crispa anemones in the wild but thrives without one.

Best kept apart

A real clash — aggression, predation or a same-genus fight.

Maroon ClownfishThe tank's most aggressive clown (Maroon) will relentlessly attack and typically kill a small peaceful skunk clown of a different species; classic "only one clownfish species per tank" — the mismatch in size and temperament makes this lethal.Purple TangPurple Tang (aggressive) is much larger than the peaceful Orange Skunk Clownfish and may harass it.Picasso TriggerfishPicasso Triggerfish (aggressive) is much larger than the peaceful Orange Skunk Clownfish and may harass it.Sebae ClownfishSebae clowns are semi-aggressive toward other clownfish species once they claim a host/territory; mixing them with a smaller peaceful skunk clown leads to sustained bullying.Cinnamon ClownfishAn established Cinnamon clown becomes very aggressive around its host/territory and attacks other clownfish species; a peaceful skunk clown added afterwards is harassed relentlessly.Fiji Blue Devil DamselAn aggressive blue devil damsel harasses smaller passive fish, including peaceful skunk clowns, and should not share a tank with them.Domino DamselDomino damsels are known to harass clownfish and disrupt peaceful tanks; a small peaceful skunk clown is a likely target once the damsel establishes territory.Dragon WrasseDragon Wrasse has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Volitans LionfishVolitans Lionfish has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Snowflake MoraySnowflake Moray has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Zebra MorayZebra Moray has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Chainlink MorayChainlink Moray has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Golden Dwarf MorayGolden Dwarf Moray has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Rectangle TriggerfishRectangle Triggerfish (aggressive) is much larger than the peaceful Orange Skunk Clownfish and may harass it.Clown TriggerfishClown Triggerfish (aggressive) is much larger than the peaceful Orange Skunk Clownfish and may harass it.Miniata GrouperMiniata Grouper (aggressive) is much larger than the peaceful Orange Skunk Clownfish and may harass it.Panther GrouperPanther Grouper (aggressive) is much larger than the peaceful Orange Skunk Clownfish and may harass it.Six-Line SoapfishSix-Line Soapfish has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Painted FrogfishPainted Frogfish has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.Dogface PufferDogface Puffer has a big enough mouth to eat the much smaller Orange Skunk Clownfish.
