Rhomboid Fairy Wrasse

Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis

A jewel-toned fairy wrasse — deep red-to-golden scales each edged in blue, giving a diamond-mesh pattern that intensifies when a male flares. Restricted to the Marshall and Line Islands, it is a prized, pricey fish that stays peaceful with the whole reef community, corals and inverts included, and hovers in open water taking zooplankton. Keep one male alone or with a few females rather than two males, and cover the tank tightly — it jumps.
