Hi Fin Red Banded Goby

A small burrow-dwelling goby with a white body, yellow head and bold black diagonal bands, named for the long filamentous first ray of its dorsal fin. It hovers a few centimetres above the mouth of a burrow it shares with a pistol shrimp (usually Alpheus randalli), which does the digging while the goby watches for danger — the pairing is the whole reason most people buy one. It needs an open sand bed of at least a few centimetres and some rubble for the shrimp to work with, otherwise it will spend its life hiding under rock. It eats frozen mysis and enriched brine readily and stays out of coral, so it suits nano and mixed reefs, but it is a determined jumper and needs a covered tank.
