Orange Spotted Prawn Goby

Amblyeleotris guttata

A charming Western Pacific shrimp-goby, its pearly-white body dotted with brown-ringed orange spots as it stands sentry at the burrow mouth. It forms a classic symbiosis with a near-blind Alpheus pistol shrimp: the shrimp digs and maintains the shared den while the goby watches for danger. Peaceful and reef-safe with corals, but its watch over the sandbed makes it a possible threat to small, delicate ornamental shrimp. Give it fine sand with coral rubble to sift, a tight-fitting lid against jumps, and frequent meaty feedings.
